Connecting survivors with the local community through picnics.


To provide survivor women and local women an opportunity for community building, socializing, and mutual support and to give them way to strengthen social connections, foster a sense of belonging, and promote shared values and traditions Empower People organised all women picnic on various occasions in Assam and Haryana. More than 1100 participated in the program, they came together and prepared food for themselves. Women also discussed common challenges or issues affecting their day-to-day life.


New Year Celebration 2023

On new year 2023, events were organised in Yamuna Nagar, Panipat and Karnal of Haryna and Dhubri of Assam. Women celebrated the New Year 2023, it was a festive and joyous occasion that brought the them together. They prepared food themselves and distributed. They also performed various activities like dancing and sang folk song.


In Assam the event were organised at 3 centres of Empower People in Dhubri district. 203 women participated in the event. Women prepared Puri-sabzi and Halwa.





In Yamuna Nagar women prepared Rice and Chapatis with mixed veg curry. 106 women participated in the event.






In Karnal district 118 women came together and took part in the event. They prepared rice and Chapatis with potato-peas curry and Halwa in dessert.






110 women participated in event organised in Panipat district. They prepared Halwa-Poori-Sabzi with rice and tea.



January 14, 2023

In Panipat, to celebrate the spirit of Dulla Bhatti and his legacy of fight against trafficking, women from across the village came together. He is said to have rescued young girls who were being taken away forcibly to be sold into slavery and to have arranged their marriages to suitable partners. Dulha Bhatti is also associated with the celebration of the festival of Lohri. Women sang songs in praise of Dulha Bhatti to celebrate his heroism and generosity.


In this event in Panipat 120 women participated. They prepared Halwa-poori-sabzi with Rice.

Magh Bihu is festival celebrated in Assam to mark the end of the harvesting season. Women actively participated in the celebration by preparing traditional. They also performed traditional activities such as singing and dancing.


In Assam 24 women came together. They prepared Laddoo, petha, poori, daal, cake.



January 26, 2023

On the 76th republic day, the event was organised in the Panipat district of Haryana. The participation and contribution of women in the country’s progress and development was discussed. Women were made aware about the rights of women in our constitution.



In the event 180 women participated. They prepared Halwa-poori with Sabzi and Tea.




February 5, 2023

Guru Ravidas Jayanti is an important cultural event for the Dalit community and a time for village women to come together in celebration of their shared heritage and beliefs. Women in Karnal performed various cultural activities and rituals to honor the life and teachings of Guru Ravidas. They sang devotional songs and recited prayers. They also decorated the place with flowers, balloons and lights.


More that 300 women participated in this festive occasion. Rice and Tanduri rotis with potato-peas curry, Kadhi and Halwa in dessert were served.

Gatherings of women provided important opportunities for community building and support. Sharing a meal together created a sense of camaraderie and fostered social connections. The meeting and lunch included discussions about topics of interest to the women. Overall, the gatherings were valuable for empowering rural women and helping to address some of the unique challenges they face.
